For this second year module, I looked at designing prints / laces for Coco De Mer. With previous inspirations of mythology, folklore, and strong women, I thought looking at the story of Medusa would resonate with the brand. My theme centred around how Medusa was depicted as a villain, even though she was a victim of rape. Coco De Mer's work with the Anti FGM charity, Desert Flower Foundation, became a key influence to change the narrative from victim changing to empowerment. Another source of inspiration was Balmain's Spring Summer 2022 collection which was influenced Oliver Rousteing's recovery from third degree burns.
See below some key pages of my sketchbook and the four final presentation boards collating these ideas.
